Villa La Selva: An Intimate Tuscan Estate for Editorial Destination Weddings
If you’re searching for a wedding venue in Tuscany that feels genuinely timeless — not just a beautiful backdrop, but a place with soul — Villa La Selva is worth your full attention. Tucked into the rolling hills of Val d’Ambra, surrounded by vineyards and ancient woodland, this estate carries the kind of atmosphere that no decorator can manufacture. It is simply already there.
As a wedding photographer with a background in architecture, I’m always drawn to venues where the space itself tells a story. Villa La Selva is one of those rare places where history, landscape, and light come together in a way that makes every frame feel effortless.
A Medici Legacy in the Heart of Tuscany
Villa La Selva’s history stretches back centuries — the estate was originally chosen as a country villa by the Medici, the powerful Florentine family whose patronage defined the Italian Renaissance. That lineage gives the property a pedigree that is genuinely felt when you walk the grounds: this is not a restored event space, it is a living estate with centuries of inhabitation behind it.
The main residence, Villa Altaserra, stands as the historic heart of the property — a noble Tuscan manor that embodies the elegant country living the Medici themselves once sought here when escaping Florence.
Architecture & Spaces: A Photographer’s Perspective
From an architectural standpoint, Villa La Selva is a deeply satisfying composition. The main villa anchors the estate with thick stone walls, symmetrical facades, and terracotta rooftops — all the hallmarks of a classic Tuscan manor. The interiors carry the warmth of centuries: worn floors, vaulted ceilings, rooms that feel lived in rather than staged.
Surrounding it are four further residences — The Winery House, La Colonica Oliveto, and six Garden Suites — each with its own distinct personality. There is always something new to discover: a quiet archway, a vine-framed terrace, a staircase catching the afternoon light in exactly the right way.
Event Spaces: Indoors and Out
For the wedding celebration itself, the estate offers a beautifully curated selection of spaces. Inside, the Ceremony Hall with its vaulted ceilings creates an intimate, almost sacred atmosphere. La Barriccaia — the former barrique cellar — doubles as an atmospheric space for dancing and cocktails, with raw stone walls and candlelight. There is also the Church of Santa Maria in Selvamaggio, a small historic family chapel that adds a layer of authenticity rarely found elsewhere.
Outdoors, the Giardino all’Italiana — a formal Italian garden with classical symmetry — is perfect for ceremonies and aperitifs. The tree-lined avenue leading to Villa Altaserra offers one of the most cinematic arrival moments I have encountered at any venue. And the Panoramic Terrace, overlooking the Tuscan hills at sunset, is simply breathtaking.
Why Villa La Selva Works for Editorial Wedding Photography
There is an inherent photographic intelligence to how the spaces are arranged: light moves beautifully through stone corridors and colonnaded terraces, the Italian garden creates strong geometric lines softened by cypresses and wisteria, and the vineyard backdrop gives every outdoor frame an unmistakable sense of place.
I work in a loose editorial style — I don’t choreograph moments, I follow them. A venue like Villa La Selva makes that approach sing. The layers of texture and history, the interplay of grand architecture and intimate corners, the golden Tuscan light at the end of the day — it all comes together into images that feel like they belong to a film rather than an album.

Location & How to Get There
Villa La Selva is located in the province of Arezzo — positioned between Siena and Florence. The nearest airports are Florence (Peretola, roughly 1 hour by car) and Pisa (approximately 1.5 hours). The Valdarno train station, on the main Florence–Rome line, is around 20 minutes away.
Sleeping On-Site & Guest Accommodation
One of the great advantages of Villa La Selva is that your entire wedding party can sleep within the grounds. The rental includes exclusive use of the resort with accommodation for up to 50 guests across three villas and six Garden Suites. Villa Altaserra sleeps up to 16 guests; The Winery House and La Colonica Oliveto each accommodate 9; the Garden Suites are ideal for couples.
Waking up on the morning of your wedding — or the morning after — surrounded by vineyards and Tuscan hills, with breakfast at a long garden table, is an experience your guests will carry with them for a long time. For those who need additional accommodation, the towns of Siena (45 minutes) and Florence (1 hour) offer a wide range of options.
Planning Your Villa La Selva Wedding
Villa La Selva is designed for intimate celebrations of up to 50 guests. This is intentional — the estate is not a large events factory but a refined, private retreat where every detail receives the attention it deserves. Civil and religious ceremonies are both welcome, indoors or in the gardens.
If you’re planning a wedding at Villa La Selva and looking for a photographer who will honour both the beauty of the place and the truth of your story, I’d love to connect. I’m based in Belgrade but travel for weddings — and Tuscany is a destination that never cease to inspire me.
