This spring, I had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful Russian-Serbian wedding at Crkva Ružica, one of the most unique churches in Belgrade, located within the historic walls of Kalemegdan Fortress.

The couple travelled from Vienna together with their closest family members and friends to celebrate their wedding in Belgrade with an Orthodox church ceremony, honouring family traditions while keeping the celebration intimate, elegant, and deeply personal.

Crkva Ružica is unlike any other church in Belgrade. Tucked away inside Kalemegdan Fortress, surrounded by centuries of history and greenery, it feels peaceful and timeless despite being located in the very centre of the city.

The church itself is relatively small, which makes it especially suitable for intimate weddings. If you’re planning a celebration with around 40 to 50 guests, the space feels warm, personal, and connected. Kalemegdan Fortress is one of my favourite locations in Belgrade for editorial-style wedding photos, and it is full of amazing spots for couple’s portraits before or after the ceremony. 

The fortress offers an incredible variety of backdrops within walking distance. Historic stone walls, hidden pathways, scenic viewpoints overlooking the rivers, and elegant architecture create endless opportunities for natural and stylish wedding portraits.

For couples who love a relaxed editorial aesthetic, I always recommend setting aside at least one hour for portraits around Kalemegdan. This allows enough time to move through several beautiful locations without rushing and to create images that feel effortless and authentic.

The result is a gallery that combines genuine emotions with a refined visual style — photographs that feel both timeless and modern.

While this rarely causes major issues, it’s worth being prepared for crowds around some of the most popular viewpoints and pathways.

If privacy is important to you, consider planning your wedding during the week. Weekdays are generally much quieter, allowing for a more relaxed atmosphere and greater flexibility during portraits.
