The story of Château de Forbin begins in the 15th century, when Palamède de Forbin — a powerful diplomat known as Palamède the Great — acquired a hunting lodge from the Lords of Baux. He was no ordinary man: it was Palamède who negotiated the peaceful union of Provence with the French Crown in 1482, earning from King Louis XI the legendary phrase, “You made me count, I make you king.” The Forbin family went on to shape the history of Provence for centuries.
The present château, built in 1865, reflects Renaissance influences with its elegant corner turret and 17th-century pediment. One of its most fascinating residents was the Marquise Roselyne de Forbin d’Oppède — a historian, writer, and painter who left her mark quite literally on the château: her hand-painted ceramic tiles still adorn the walls of the library. A more recent chapter belongs to contemporary art enthusiasts who transformed the estate into a showcase for post-graffiti art, and the collection — featuring works by Futura 2000, Rammellzee, and Kenny Scharf — remains on display today, creating a striking dialogue between old and new.
And then there is the wrought iron spiral staircase, rumoured to have been designed by Gustave Eiffel himself. Whether legend or fact, it is utterly breathtaking.

The reception rooms span over 1,000 m² across three levels and include four interconnected salons, a magnificent period library, a Molteni kitchen, and an elevator clad in leather and walnut. Soft natural light filters through tall windows, the garden-facing terraces create open, airy frames, and the interplay of textures — stone, tile, wood, art — offers endless compositional possibilities.

Location: Château de Forbin is located at the foot of the Saint-Cyr massif. It sits between Marseille and Cassis, at the edge of the Calanques National Park.
Getting There: The nearest international airport is Marseille-Provence Airport (MRS), approximately 30–40 minutes away by car. The Marseille Saint-Charles TGV train station connects the city to Paris in about 3 hours, and from there the château is roughly 20–30 minutes by car or taxi. For guests arriving from other European cities, Marseille is extremely well-served by direct flights.
Accommodation On-Site: Yes — and this is one of Château de Forbin’s great advantages. The estate offers 10 to 12 bedrooms (across the château and former stables), accommodating up to 22–30 guests on-site. The rooms are elegantly appointed and overlook either the French garden or the park. For the bride and groom, a master suite is available featuring a fireplace, a spa bathroom, a walnut dressing room, and terraces overlooking the grounds.
Guest Accommodation Nearby: Marseille itself offers a wide range of hotels to suit every budget, from boutique properties in the Panier quarter to five-star hotels overlooking the Old Port. Cassis, just 15 minutes away, is a charming seaside village with lovely hotels and holiday rentals — a wonderful place for guests to extend their trip.
